When installing digiKam on KDE Neon, there are no thumbnails and no previews for videos available.


STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install digiKam on KDE Neon (Current repo version at report: 6.1.0)
2. View a video
3. Be confused

OBSERVED RESULT
No thumbnails & no previews on double-click

EXPECTED RESULT
Thumbnails & Previews work

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: KDE neon 5.16
KDE Plasma Version: 5.16.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.60.0
Qt Version: 5.12.3

I have read the thread. No this is a Neon package problem. The media player support is enabled by default in digiKam. FFmpeg and QtAV are needed.

If the neon package do not work, use the AppImage bundle instead that we provide with QtAv support...

Yes, I am using the AppImage now. But you do know that that is not a long-term solution? Automatic and easy updates are a core feature in Linux, AppImages defy that behaviour. Should I report this against KDE Neon somewhere? Isn't there some communication within KDE to resolve such problems?

A long term solution. Seriously for each digiKam release we provide immediately an AppImage bundle... how long distro Linux update digiKam package ????

Anyway, Neon has a section in bugzilla
