Description Anwar 2019-07-27 14:16:20 UTC
Falkon snap doesn't use ibus input method. I'm using ibus-avro to input bengali. I can input Bengali in other snaps (i.e. superproductivity) and regular falkon application, but can't use in Falkon snap

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install Falkon using `snap install falkon`
2. Start Falkon snap
3. Change input method to ibus and try to type.

OBSERVED RESULT
The latin letters are input instead of your desired language, in my case Bengali.

EXPECTED RESULT
The desired language characters should be input

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: Zorin OS 15 (based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS)
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version:
KDE Frameworks Version: Falkin 3.1 uses kde-frameworks-5-core18-all
Qt Version: 5.12

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This threads says ibus input method support has been added to snaps and the experience says the same (can be used in other snaps). https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/cant-use-input-method-in-snap-apps

This is a snap problem. Looking into it.
Comment 2 Ryan Y 2024-02-23 04:39:29 UTC
Ibus does not work also on Kdenlive Snap (23.08.4) and some other KDE Snaps. I think the cause is the same.
It works on Kate Snap as of now. (24-02-23) I'm using Wayland, if that helps.
Comment 3 Ryan Y 2024-02-23 07:29:13 UTC
Sorry, I should've written the version number of the Kate Snap instead of the current date. It's stable 23.08.4. It's a "classic" snap package.

Hi, my first attempt at fixing this https://invent.kde.org/utilities/kate/-/merge_requests/1412
Comment 5 Ryan Y 2024-02-23 14:30:17 UTC
I mentioned the Kate snap package because ibus *can* properly work in it, unlike in other KDE snaps I've tried. Sorry for the poorly written comments.

Is this still a problem?

I tried with several KDE Snaps; in Kdenlive (rev 113), Okular (rev 162), Gwenview (rev 142) and Kate (rev 195), Ibus worked just fine.
But Krita (rev 108) still doesn't accept Ibus. Unfortunately, Falkon (rev 129) fails to launch in my Virtualbox environment so I couldn't test it.

Apperently the Krita Snap is published by the Krita Foundation, not by KDE. Should I report the issue in some other place to let them know?

I think the problem has now gone for the ones that are published by KDE.

I work on Krita as well. Sorry I am drowning on what is supposed to be freetime work. I have added this to my shortlist.
