I just encountered the exact same problem. Controlling the backlight from the ACPI interface still works, but the brightness buttons have no effect, no osd is present, and no brightness slider is present in the power management settings. hum, I reinstalled Neon unstable edition on my laptop a few weeks ago and I can't confirm this issue anymore.
