1. I created two documents, tiled them in krita, and dragged a layer from the layer box of the right-side document into the left-side document; that worked for me. Are you doing something different?
2. Do you mean the file open dialog from within Krita? I wouldn't expect that to work because the dialog is modal.

I attached an image showing the steps.

Ah, you're dragging to the tab bar. That broke in Qt 5.12, and the Qt developers haven't restored the old behaviour yet :-(
Comment 4 Rafal 2019-07-19 23:58:11 UTC
Yes, that is the only way (I know) to switch between open projects in Krita. To click on the top bar's file name (or drag a layer there in older versions of Krita). Is there another way to move layers between open projects?
I thought there was a way to drag a project outside of the main Krita window, but i don't know how to do it.

DO you intend to make it work as before or not?

Also do you intend to make the drag, drop from open dialog window work, or not ?

Thank you.

I think we intend to make it work as it used to be, but afaik that has to be fixed upstream by Qt.

In the mean time a workaround to allow drag and drop on multiple documents you can use the windowed mode
Settings > General > Window

Multiple document mode -> Subwindows

Restart krita.
