SUMMARY I want to use Dolphin to create an archive containing other archives. Currently such task is impossible. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. have two or more archives and select them in Dolphin 2. right click on any selected archive 3. OBSERVED RESULT you can not create an archive because "Compress" entry is missing in the context menu. EXPECTED RESULT "Compress" entry is available in the context menu. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.16.3 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.60 Qt Version: 5.13
This behavior is only reproducible if the selected archives are of the same type. Two tar.xz archives, for example.
Even for a single "archive" file, it may make sense to apply compression. For example, I'd like to compress some (uncompressed) ISO files, but the Compress menu is not available currently.
I can confirm this issue on dolphin from git master. I took a moment and though of a use case for this: - I want to transfer 500 tar.xz files to a friend, I tar.xz them all (using no compression) into a larger file for transport.
