OBSERVED RESULT Width of places panel is smaller than when I closed the program. Names of directories are only shown half. EXPECTED RESULT Same width as when closing the program. Please discard this "bug" since it is not a bug. It was my own stupidity which caused the events I saw. Things are well now. Cause: I switched back from a beta version of Manjaro to the normal version while keeping the hidden config folders and files in my home folder. Somehow the normal version doesn't play well with files from the beta version. Apologies for filing this bug.
