SUMMARY
If I want to adjust mid-grey levels, I'm tempted to use the mid-grey drop/picker. But this has almost no effect on the gamme.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Pick the mid-grey color picker
2. select a pixel area that is far from beeing mid-gray (shadow or whitish).
3. The gamma is not modified that much

OBSERVED RESULT
Mid-levels are not modified (gamma almost unchanged)

EXPECTED RESULT
Mid-Levels should be corrected so that the drop picker becomes mid gray. (gamma changes).

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: Windows 10

Without changing the color balance, of course.
