Description lo 2019-06-17 21:32:43 UTC
SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open image file
2. Use similar color selector
3. Click any area on image

OBSERVED RESULT
No selection appears to be made. The history docker records the click correctly, but a color fill simply covers the entire image and deselecting is not recognized as there is no selection to deselect.

EXPECTED RESULT
The color clicked on, and colors similar, should produce a selection.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: 8.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Just installed Krita this morning, have not restarted it since adjusting many settings, hotkeys, etc.

Could you share the image you tested with? It worked here with my test image.

Hi,

I know it's going to be difficult to diagnose, so I've sent you a video clip of me testing out the "wand" and similar color selector, neither of which seem to be working well for me. (The "wand" did, but I'm not sure I can replicate the conditions. Though I do recall that it worked when I clicked a transparent part of a layer to fill in.)

I've also attached the images I used in the video.

Thank you.

Thanks for your comment!

Automatically switching the status of this bug to REPORTED so that the KDE team
knows that the bug is ready to get confirmed.

In the future you may also do this yourself when providing needed information.

As I watched your .webm video, I noticed that you have selection action set to Intersect (the second icon from the left). I think you need the Replace action (on the left).

The Flood Fill tool will fill an entire layer if there is no selection and 'Fill Entire Selection' is ticked in tool Options. This seems counter intuitive and I'm not sure if it's a flaw/fault/bug.

Using krita 4.2.0 on Windows 10, with both your 'purdy' and '01' images, I can get reasonable results with Contiguous Selection and Similar Colour Selection tools. However, with those dark colours that have low contrast with respect to each other, the Similar Colour Selection results can be poor and it needs fine adjustment of the Fuzziness control to get something reasonable.

I suggest that you try again with the selection action set to Replace in the Tool Options docker and try some adjustments to the Fuzziness control.

Setting to needsinfo for feedback.

OK, that was the problem - I was SURE I'd clicked the "add" function. Sorry about the confusion, all. Fast response, though. Thank you for all your hard work.
