Created attachment 120521 [details] screen capture of panel flashing I don't see this immediately when I create a new user, but the new user has a completely different configuration - different theme, font sizing, etc. So I have no easy way to reproduce it at this time. I suppose I could try installing bits and pieces of my existing configuration into a new user's account, but clearly there's a backcompat problem for users upgrading from 15.0. Also, I'm thinking now that perhaps this is a "feature" called "attention demanding" that's referenced here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=379241 If so, how do I disable it? Completely disable it, not just cross pager windows. Am I seeing a new "feature" of KDE in Leap 15.1 or is this a bug? Note how the flashing progresses from the panel flashing to just the opener icon flashing (along with the "menu" icon on the right side of the screen too, not captured). KDE Plasma Version 5.12.8 KDE Frameworks Version 5.55.0 Qt Version 5.9.7 Kernel Version 4.12.14 oS Type: 64-bit
Does disabling compositing (Shift+Alt+F12) help to resolve this issue? It looks like a graphics issue, unrelated to attention demanding.

Yes, disabling compositing stops the flashing, but that's not a solution for me as I need transparent windows to be able to compare one browser page to another. Apparently setting compositing to use XRender solves the problem, but both OpenGL 2.0 and 3.1 suffer from it. So can the bug be reopened or do I need to file a new one against compositing? I don't think it's OK to have the default compositing methods broken, with a commonly used feature like panel auto-hide. It worked fine in OpenSUSE 15.0.
Question about compositing has been answered.
Thanks for the update; reassigning.
Please post output of qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin supportInformation Does the panel stop flickering if you move a window over the flashing area?

(In reply to Vlad Zahorodnii from comment #9) > Please post output of > qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin supportInformation > > Does the panel stop flickering if you move a window over the flashing area? The "flashing area" is actually the entire panel running the width of the top of the screen. If I drag a window up into that area, the flashing will become temporarily invisible near the window header. However, if I leave the window in that position, and then click its header, then mouse back up to trigger the panel to unhide, the panel will start oscillating again, even with the window there.
Note that the workaround I mentioned above, using XRender, is suboptimal as it comes with is own bugs - occasional corruption of the active window causing it to become invisible. Likely not many people use that compositor, so it's not hit by many. However, this fact motivates me to get the original bug fixed. Looks like we be may into 15.2 with the bug still present. Not sure how I can be the only one using auto-hiding.
