Created attachment 120397 [details] "move to trash" on trash-bin Trash bin can delete itself with "move to trash" OS: openSUSE Tumbleweed "20190527" Plasma version: plasma5-desktop-5.15.5-1.1.x86_64
That's because that particular trash is actually a Desktop file, which is just a text file that gets interpreted to mimic a trash. So technically, it's correct for the context menu to show a bunch of file-related actions. However this is obviously a somewhat odd user experience. We actually already have a better user experience for "trash-on-the-desktop": add the "Trashcan" widget to the desktop. This widget has all the same functionality as well as a more appropriate trash-specific context menu. Maybe we should have Plasma intelligently sense when a user is trying to add the trash to the desktop in a way that would create a desktop file for it, and instead create a new Trashcan widget.
I tested the trash plasma widget today. Observations: * It doesn't easily line up with the normal icons on my desktop * Resizing to match the size of the icons didn't go too well * I can't rename the thing * It bugs me like hell that for moving the widget I always have to use the top-right thing on the desktop So, if you asked me, no widget for me anytime soon.
You can delete the Trash from the desktop just fine, the label is a bit confusing, but I don't see anything wrong with that.
Well, it's a look & feel issue. If this were to affect an *pple device, someone would be screamed at quite loudly.

Anyway my point was that it's probably worth unifying these somehow. Having two ways to put a trash on the desktop isn't really ideal. And that single way should look and feel good and proper.
