SUMMARY In a multimonitor setup, the "Primary display" setting does not persist across logins. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Connect two monitors to a computer, turn it on, and log into KDE. 2. In System Settings, select a different primary display and press "Apply". 3. Reboot and log into KDE. OBSERVED RESULT 4. Panels appear on the wrong monitors. Inspecting System Settings shows that this is because the primary display setting is back to the way it was originally. EXPECTED RESULT 4. Primary display setting should have persisted. Panels should have appeared on the correct monitors. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS KDE Plasma Version: 5.15.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.57.0 Qt Version: 5.12.3
Same here. I'm on a different system though: SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS KDE Plasma Version: 5.17.3 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.64.0 Qt Version: 5.13.2 SUMMARY In addition to what is described in the OP, the relative position of the displays is not saved either. Upon restarting I have to move the displays around again so that the one physically on the left shows the left part of the virtual desktop. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION My setup consists of displays using different interfaces: one is HDMI the other DP. HDMI is always selected automatically as the primary display following a restart. I don't remember having this problem when I had two DP displays, but this observation is not necessarily relevant.
Same thing here. Operating System: Fedora Linux 36 KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.3 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.96.0 Qt Version: 5.15.3 Kernel Version: 5.18.11-200.fc36.x86_64 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11
Unfortunately multi-monitor bugs can be caused by any number of different things, so it's unlikely that Tristan's bug from 2014 is the exact same bug that George and Raman are experiencing, even if the symptoms are the same. Tristan, can we ask you to please check if this is still an issue with Plasma 5.25 or 5.26? If it is, please change the status to CONFIRMED when replying. If not, or if you can't because you no longer use this setup, you can change the status to RESOLVED WORKSFORME. Thanks a lot! George, if you can still reproduce your issue with Plasma 5.25 or 5.26, please open a new bug report for it. Thanks! Raman, can you also open a new bug report with your issue?
I still have the same monitor setup and have just retested. The issue is no longer reproducible with Plasma 5.26.3.
(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #3) > Raman, can you also open a new bug report with your issue? Done so here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=461822.
(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #3) > George, if you can still reproduce your issue with Plasma 5.25 or 5.26, > please open a new bug report for it. Thanks! > Unfortunately, I no longer have access to the machine exhibiting the problematic behaviour. On my current system, primary display is persistent across reboots, although this is a DP+DP setup, not a DP+HDMI one like my previous system (among other differences).
