Description Lionel 2019-04-24 12:16:22 UTC
SUMMARY
* I can create a new project: I add a video to the project tree without facing any problem. But since I add a sound (whatever MP3, WAV, OGG...), Kdenlive crashes. And whatever the method : dragging the file or using "add a clip" menu.

* Even with old kdenlive files: since the project contains a sound, it crashes.

Note: there isn't any crash when I use the sound still existing in the video.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add a video file to the project tree
2. Add any sound file to the project tree
3.

OBSERVED RESULT
The sound file is loaded, but at the end of the load, Kdenlive crashes

EXPECTED RESULT
No crash.

Some more details :
I went back to the 8-12-3.1 release (march 7th 2019) and Kdenlive works fine, even if I didn't come back all dependencies :
kfilemetadata-5.57.0-1 (April 13th)
knewstuff-5.57.0-1 (April 13th)
knotifyconfig-5.57.0-1 (April 13th)
mlt-6.14.0-5 (April 8th)
purpose-5.57.0-1 (April 13th)
rttr-0.9.6-2 (April 8th)
qt5-quickcontrols-5.12.3-1 (April 20th)
qt5-quickcontrols2-5.12.3-1 (April 20th)

To be sure to be understood: Kdenlive old release 8-12 works fine with dependencies up to date.

----
Then I tried to update to the kdenlive-19.03.90-1 release (April 5th)
And I got this error message :
kdenlive: /usr/lib/libQt5Core.so.5: version `Qt_5.13' not found (required by kdenlive)

But the qt-base release is still today 5.12: the 5.13 is beta release.

----
I tried again to update to 19.04.0-3 release, and the same behaviour occurs: it seems working but crashes when I try to add a sound.

Thank you for any idea 🙂

Thank you for reporting this issue.

We have probably the same issue here under Windows: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=405831 .

Issue https://invent.kde.org/kde/kdenlive/issues/117 is opened for that.

The root cause is not found so far.
Comment 3 Lionel 2019-04-24 19:15:38 UTC
Thanks emohr, that's it ! Exactly...
(but there isn't any solution right now, is it ?)

I add: if I load an existing kdenlive file which already has an audio file, program also exits.

I don't think it's the same as the windows bug, since the windows bug occurs only on first startup, while what you describe seems to happen all the time?

It seems that the arch package has lead to some issues, it might just be the cause. Maybe try reporting that to the packager? I'm running arch to develop the application and don't have any such issues...

I'm not sure if there are debug symbols in the executable, but could you try to get a gdb backtrace?

Arch released a new qtmultimedia package. Can you update and try again.
If it still crashes could you try with the 19.04.0 AppImage from the download page.
Comment 6 Lionel 2019-04-26 19:42:58 UTC
ok, I've tried several things (and sorry for being late in responding 😉)

There is an informal package (AUR) about qtmultimedia, I've tried it, but unsuccessfully. (I think it's better to keep in normal packages, but I've tried)

I've spent some time trying to understand about AppImage, and when I've succeeded, I re realized the las image is... 18.12.1b Anyway, because all 18.12 releases works fine

I don't understand about "debug symbols in the executable", but the error message is :
"Exception en point flottant (core dumped)" (French)

I keep thinking this bug could be the same (with some variations) with the one you noticed me (windows 10)

Thanks to all of you 🙂

I've updated to 19.04.1-1 but the bug still occurs
Comment 8 emohr 2021-03-05 18:30:54 UTC
As it has been a while since this was reported, can you please test and confirm if this issue is still occurring or if this bug report can be marked as resolved.

Please try with the current Kdenlive AppImage version 20.12.2 https://download.kde.org/stable/kdenlive/20.12/linux/
