Description lamola2010 2019-04-17 15:45:03 UTC
I'm a lightroom 5.7.1 user, how can I migrate the catalog of my 50,000 photos to digikam 6.0? I do not want to lose the basic settings, cuts and metadata.

LR migration is a topic which have been already talk in digikam user mailing list in the past.

Globally, in LR, you need to write all image properties in XMP sidecar files. digiKam cannot parse the LR database which is a closed format. XMP sidecar is normalized and well documented. It's used for interoperability between photo applications.

In digiKam, check well the Setup/metadata configuration panel to use XMP sidecar.

Create a new root collection based on your path where images managed by LR are stored.

When scan of items is done (this can take a while), you must to see appear all tags, labels, comments, etc from LR in digiKam items properties.

I recommend to make test first, on small collection, and to process step by step. Scanning items and populate the database is a long stage.
