SUMMARY The option to hide background under dynamic background in tweaks stops working on HiDPI screens when PLASMA_USE_QT_SCALING=1. Instead, the panel stays transparent regardless of window state. Considering how the variable is not meant to be used normally, are there any suggested workarounds? Note that the setting works when an attached dialog is opened like system tray drop down etc and the panel becomes opaque. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. set scaling to 2 from KDE settings. 2. set PLASMA_USE_QT_SCALING=1. 3. reboot OBSERVED RESULT Transparent panel for maximized window. Hence, background always hidden (transparent). EXPECTED RESULT Opaque panel for maximized window, transparent panel otherwise. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.15.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.56 Qt Version: 5.12.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The use of PLASMA_USE_QT_SCALING is not suggested for Plasma + X11 environments. Plasma devs are very clear about this. The reason is that the combination breaks too many things around Plasma, more importantly the window geometries provided from X11 are not valid. Nonetheless in plasma code here and there there are workarounds in order to make the experience affordable, and improve a bit the scaling experience under X11. So my comment in this is the following, I will try to provide a small workaround but it will be only for in-development branch and not for the stable one and as long the workaround DO NOT break any other parts of Latte.
That's great! Thanks for the prompt reply.
