Trying to back up to today's portable media (MicroSD or USB) does not work with Kbackup, since root privileges are needed to write to mounted removable storage. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Insert USB thumb drive 2. Set up Kbackup to backup some stuff 3. Set target as USB drive OBSERVED RESULT User gets an error that the destination could not be opened or written to. EXPECTED RESULT User gets prompted for superuser password. User's stuff gets backed up, thereby making Kbackup actually useful for using with removable media. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.15.4 KDE Frameworks Version: Qt Version: ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I guess this depends on how your portable media is mounted. E.g. here on my openSuse Leap 15.0, using an USB drive mounted via KDE/Solid mechanism, I can write to it as a normal user. And since kbackup does not do the mount, this is out of scope.
