Description deemon 2019-04-04 08:38:36 UTC
SUMMARY
KDE screenlocker(?) tries to hibernate my laptop even though there is no swap file or partition in my system. Which causes my laptop to become unresponsive and stay awake with black screen and active wifi/BT leds still burning and only way out is hard reboot.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. install Manjaro KDE with no swap partition (and don't create any swap things either afterwards)
2. lock the screen
3. let the system go to sleep

OBSERVED RESULT
Computer unresponsive with black screen and wifi and BT leds still active.

EXPECTED RESULT
Computer is responsive and lets me log back on.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Manjaro 5.0.5-1 or the 5.0.x before that.
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.15.3 or few earlier. rolling releases are so often :/
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.56.0 or few earlier.
Qt Version: 5.12.2 or few earlier.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
1. when I hard disabled hibernation system wide with "nohibernate" flag in grub config, this did not happen anymore.

2. Only did happen on my laptop, did not happen with desktop computer with no battery.

when i say let the computer "go to sleep" I mean go away from the computer for several hours.

It does not.

Please check your powermanagement settings.

And why you think I didn't, before even bothering to report it?
Comment 4 deemon 2019-04-04 21:59:17 UTC
Basically there is NO indication at all that I could enable hibernation. There is 0 settings to enable it (in the GUI at least). However it did what I described in the initial bugreport and adding nohibernate to grub config line fixed it for me. I do not know any other way to "check my powermanagement settings" or whatever and you have to be way more specific than that if you actually want me to do this.

system settings-> power management -> look at the suspend session checkbox

Everything was OK there. I mean suspend was suspend and not hybrid or anything else.

Weirdly enough now just for testing purposes I removed the nohibernate from grub and have not been able to reproduce this "bug" anymore several days (before it happened constantly for a week every morning). Haven't changed any settings else AFAIK. Maybe just toggling some settings there on and off shaked it into place? Or maybe some updates elsewhere fixed this also? Seems to be OK right now.
