SUMMARY On the last couple of ubuntu releases with Gnome desktop, I cannot add Digikam to the Dash (left side bar) as favorite. This seems to have to do with the desktop icon. This is a known issue between gnome desktop and QT applications from what I read. Below are two related bugreports for Konsole. https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=774353 https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=372441 The solution is to add a StartupWMClass=digikam line to the .desktop file I did this by copying /usr/share/applications/org.kde.digikam.desktop to ~/.local/share/applications and adding the above line. After this, I could add digikam to the Dash.
Please try the last stable 6.0.0. 5.9.0 take age now and this kind of problem is certainly already fixed... Gilles Caulier
5.9.0 is still the default version for ubuntu 18.10 and I couldn't find a ppa for 6.0 or 6.1. But if you say it is solved in higher versions, the bug can be closed Thanks!
You can try with current stable 6.0.0 AppImage linux bundle that we provide, using AppImageLaucher application which register digiKam in desktop. AppImage : https://download.kde.org/stable/digikam/6.0.0/digikam-6.0.0-x86-64.appimage.mirrorlist AppImageLaucher details can be found in this report : https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=404939#c7 Note : AppImage bundle for digiKam 6.1.0 is under construction and not yet usable. Appimagelauncher is a great advice. I installed it and got digikam 6.0.0 attached to my Dash without problem! Case closed!
