Created attachment 118833 [details] paste not working SUMMARY When I copy anything on any program, I am unable to paste what I copied whether it's with CTRL+V or the paste option on the right click menu STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Copy text to clipboard 2. Paste content from the clipboard OBSERVED RESULT Nothing happens EXPECTED RESULT Content is pasted ADDITIONAL INFORMATION After copying something, the clipboard seems to always have a blank entry on the top no matter what. If I delete it, it gets back in the next second.
The problem seems to be intermittent, it comes and goes after the nth reboot.
I've had this problem at least since kf5 5.38, plasma-workplace 5.10.5, Fedora 25. Now on kf5 5.54, plasma-workspace 5.13, Fedora 28. I disable Klipper. The clipboard will just stop working, or work erratically, in my main KDE apps: KMail, KAlarm, Konqueror, Konsole. The clipboard doesn't seem to get populated by a KDE Ctrl-C/X, or highlighting. Ctrl-V or middle-click pastes whatever non-KDE app did a Ctrl-C/X or highlight. Seems like KDE disconnects from its own and the X clipboards.
If you've disabled klipper then this can't be Klipper's fault. Why not just use it? Then all the problems will probably go away. It's also not clear that your problem is the same one as humanix is having.

Using Arch, this problem is extremely easy to reproduce but it seemingly random. This is related to clipboard history and if you clear clipboard history, copy paste becomes usable again. The issue is that at random there's an empty/null entry created in the clipboard history. To reproduce this I simply selected text with mouse (no pressing CTRL+C/V as simply selecting the text on Linux in medit/gedit copies it to clipboard) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYbYJfGaFV4 You can see that after copying a few things an empty entry appeared. It can also be easily reproduced by going to your favorite text editor and SHIFT selecting text at random. (only first 15 seconds relevant) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRVE-Om5N4A I can also 100% reproduce this in Chromium - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4y5nU0N48Ws To 100% reproduce that 1) Open up a tab in chromium and go to some website 2) Click the address bar - the entire text will be selected. Click at the end of the URL to deselect 3) Clear clipboard 4) Click back to the end of that address bar, press CTRL+A. The URL will appear in clipboard history 5) Press CTRL+C - This will add the null entry to the history. This bug has been driving me insane - not being able to copy and paste at random eats me every day.
After updating my system (19.04 apps update/5.15.4?) I can't reproduce this anymore, so am marking this fixed.
I take that back, I can reproduce it again exactly how I posted above. It does seem to come and go just like OP described.
Same here. Observed since March on Kubuntu 18.10 with backports and, after upgrade, on 19.10.
I noticed that klipper always adds an empty item at the top of the list no matter what I do: copy from any application, delete the top entry from the list, select and older item from the list. I tried to change all configuration parameters: prevent empty clipboard, ignore selection, dis/enable actions, restarting plasma, removing .local/share/klipper/history2.lst and .config/klipperrc before and after restarting plasma, rebooting the PC. Nothing helps. SOS!!!
Still happening on 5.17.3.
So I finally figured out what is causing this for me. Having a virt-manager window with an open VM (Arch Linux host, Arch Linux VM) makes me have the blank-clipboard issues I described. Closing the virt-manager window with the VM (not necessarily shutting the VM down) makes the problem immediately go away.
Are others who had the issue able to confirm that the issue is now resolved whether it be virt-manager or otherwise fixed. I've set the bug status to "needsinfo" pending your response, please change back to "reported" or "resolved" when you respond, thanks.
Can't reproduce anymore, tried with a Windows 20H2 and an Arch VM, both with clipboard integration. Though I can't 100% confirm it's gone as I do not recall if it was a 100% reproducible right after starting a VM or if there was another condition to trigger it, but setting resolved as requested.
