summary says it all.
would be good to have an option with same behavior as previously in unity with smart autohide.

Thus panel is visible all the time but dodges the active window (and shows if screen edges are touched)

I'm not familiar with the Unity behavior. Can you describe it a bit more? You want the panel to only hide itself when a window is maximized or something?
