The current hover effect is really faint. The icon just lights up a little - you can barely tell what you're about to click on. This makes needlessly hard to see where the mouse is on the dock, especially if you're not using the "zoom" feature. People with poorer eyesight than mine might find it unusable for this reason. It should be like menubars, lists and Windows dock. Imagine hovering over a menubar and just seeing the text change color slightly. Such a menubar would be unusable, because you would get no no visual feedback regarding the position of the cursor. This is why Menubars change the color of the text background when you hover over an item. Windows dock is the same. It's makes selecting the right icon much more precise - you always know what you're about to click on. Current behavior: Right now only the icon lights up on hover, very slightly. Proposal: Add a new hover effect. on mouse hover, the icon's **background** changes / lights up. This would be same as the hover effect on a menu.
The hover effect is just an approach of how plasma applets are showing their hovering. So it is an approach that could work both for tasks and applets.
so I will wait for mockups that propose a nice aesthetic change and solve also the referenced issues
...
Just do it the way plasma already does it. Observe the hover effect "icon only" task manager that ships with Plasma. (the colors and shapes depend on the theme being used). This hover effect is standard throughout plasma. You will see it every task manager and every menu. It's basically standard for GUI's in general. Latte dock's hover effect is not standard.
The hover effect you are mentioning is only for tasks and I don't like it with parabolic effect... In any case as the master version supports different indicators it might be possible to have different hoverings that will be provided from the indicators
Created attachment 118675 [details] illustration of the usability problem, even with the parabolic effect. It's also for global menu, and for all the menus. This is the standard hover effect for virtually all selection interfaces (except Mac's dock) in computing. I'd personally like to see this effect available for the parabolic effect too, because it does improve usability there too. For example, look at the at the attacked screenshot. It is very difficult to tell what you're about to click on even with the parabolic effect. This would can all be option. People can still use the older prelight effect if they want. But I'd urge the new hover effect I am proposing to be the default. That's what most users are accustomed to.
The hovering would be from the plasma theme, just like for the default tasks widget. Do you still need more info?
It is not a matter of more info, I just don't agree
You don't agree with making this an option?
I don't agree supporting it from main official Latte indicator... No problem to provide a way for other indicators to support it such plasma or unity one or from user created ones
Well, I don't know about you but I am constantly clicking on the wrong items in the dock precisely because there is no visual feedback to tell me what I am about to click on.
Well I am constantly clicking the correct items and mouse pointer helps with that... BTW why don't you replace Latte plasmoid with a plasma taskmanager?
lol it's cause I need the cycle effect. The KDE dock has no decent alternative for switching between grouped windows. Also the indicators are really poorly executed. Imo, Latte dock would be ideal if it kept the magnification feature - which is useful on small screens, but stuck to a sane default style, like Gnome dash to dock.
Gnome dask to dock does not have parabolic effect, You could try Plasma or Unity style indicators in Latte master version, you won't lose parabolic effect with them... They are considered of course work in progress currently, more touches are missing for them
I know, but this isn't about the indicators - it's about the hover effect.
Indicators will have their own hover effects if they want
