For what reason, out of curiosity?

Sometimes it would be useful for me, if I need to get to know the package name of a preinstalled package. Sometimes I can find a specific package only via the Software Manager and not via Terminal. With the name, I could put it in an install script ...

... and more importantly: If I want to assign a keyboard shortcut to a program or create a special launcher, I have to know the package name.

We keep getting this kind of request over and over again. It's been said no to in the pact, but maybe we should reconsider...

That sounds great!
I just found another reason, why this would be really good: If I want to file a bug/request for an application I do not know that well, I sometimes just don't know the correct name ...

That last one is actually a reason not to show the package name. Often distributions use a different name for the package than upstream's project name. :/

I get your point. But even if that is the case and the names are not identical (which is sad), they are probably at least close, aren't they? For me as a newcomer to bugs.kde.org, that would still be an immense help.

For reporting bugs we explicitly have a field for it. See attached screenshot.

What about Krita for example

There is no such entry for Krita, even though it is an officially supported KDE application, am I right?
Also: What about other applications, which are not KDE-specific? Wouldn't it help the whole FOSS community? (I know bold statement, but ... wouldn't it?)

Did you discuss it already? For me it mostly is this kind of passion for detail that makes for a polished experience.

+1 to this wishlist issue

Although different distros can be naming with different name to the package, I think that this is one more reason in order to include this suggest. Is only information, I want to think that it's normal that a regular user only use a unique distro, minimum for several months, else years.
