Description Flupp 2019-02-27 09:52:29 UTC
Although I disabled animations in “System Settings/Appearance/Application Style/Widget Style/Configure…/Animations/Enable animations”, some widgets are still animated:
- opening/closing combo boxes,
- appearing/disappearing tool tips, and
- opening/closing menus.
There may be other affected widgets I missed.

Also, enabling the animation and changing the “Animation duration” has no effect on these widgets.

These are separate X11 windows (or Wayland surfaces). Please also disable window manager animations.

I see. I had to disable “System Settings/Workspace/Desktop Behavior/Desktop Effects/Fading Popups”. This effect was probably introduced or factored out of another effect in the last major KDE release because I did not have this behavior before.

In my opinion – at least in case of the combo box – this is not the intuitive place to look at if one does not know the technical background. Maybe it helps to add a note in the configuration dialog of the widget style. Another solution might be to move the “Desktop Effects” configuration into the Appearance category.

Re-tested and these issues are all fixed now with the shiny central animation duration control in System Settings
