SUMMARY

Today I updated to the latest KDE Plasma via backports PPA on Kubtuntu 18.10. I've since experience some issues:

Applications that are greyed out (i.e main window lose focus) when, say, Save As (Kate) or Create new directory F10 (Dolphin), will stay greyed out. Also, when closing the application, it will pop back up after half a second, still greyed out but non-interactive.

To close/remove the application I have to change [virtual] desktop.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Dolphin
2. Create new directory (F10)
3. Apply/close the dialogue
4. The main window of Dolphin is now greyed out ("out of focus")
5. Close the window
6. Observe the window pop back up, grey and non-interactive
7. Switch desktop forth and back again
8. See the window gone

OBSERVED RESULT
1. Greyed out after losing focus
2. Popping back up after closing

EXPECTED RESULT
1. Have focus returned after exit dialogue
2. Not pop up after closing

Does this only happen with Dolphin, or with other KDE apps too?

Does the problem go away if you disable the "Dialog Parent" effect in System Settings > Desktop Behavior > Desktop Effects?

It happens with Kate and with LibreOffice Writer (both the popping back up and the greying out), at least.

At the time of filing the bug report, I had mostly been working with Dolphin and Kate. Later, I did some work in Writer and encountered it there too, but it slipped my mind that I ought to update the bug report.

I'm currently unable to check any further apps, or test your suggestion, as I currently away, and don't have access to my desktop. I'll check and post an update when I have the chance.

The issue seems to have gone away by itself now. Tested with Dolphin, Kate and LO Writer, without any grey-out staying after colsing dialogues or any closed windows popping back up. Apparantly, not being used for 5 days cured it.
Also, have updated to 5.15.2.
