STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. search for "standard shorcuts" kcm in the apps launcher and open it
2. search for "delete" action, change current shortcut to delete key, apply the change
3. restart plasma
4. select any file located on your desktop
5. press delete key
6. a dialog shows up asking for your confirmation to delete the file permanently
(click "Cancel" button)

OBSERVED RESULT
plasma sends your file to trash

EXPECTED RESULT
the file remains on your desktop

Additional info
Observed result does not occur if I use context menu + shift key instead of keyboard shorcut.

Ultimately the same problem and the same fix as Bug 426573.
