What is your kmail version ?
you assign it to 5.7.3 !
it's too old and I fixed a lot of bug in new version.
Comment 5 Laurent Montel 2019-02-13 12:49:28 UTC
did you change settings: kmail->configure->color -> "do not change color from original html" ?
Comment 6 Philippe ROUBACH 2019-02-13 13:06:43 UTC

if i do that then it is readable but it is full white. this is not what we want.

we want a dark theme readable for message contents.
Comment 8 Laurent Montel 2019-02-13 13:20:13 UTC
So you can't :)
We can't change dynamically the color from the original mail which forces color.
Comment 9 Philippe ROUBACH 2019-02-13 13:25:57 UTC
i suggest to kde team to supply the ability to use user FF.

because i use the extent "dark reader".

less work for kde team to use FF. With FF we get all security features of FF and more.
Comment 10 Laurent Montel 2019-02-13 13:33:33 UTC
FF ?? Firefox ?
Comment 11 Philippe ROUBACH 2019-02-13 13:44:04 UTC
yes
Comment 12 Laurent Montel 2019-02-13 14:56:24 UTC
So you mean thunderbird.

So if you think that thunderbird is better why you continue to use kmail ?
You are free to move to thunderbird :)

I will not cry for sure :)

If you think that it's critical for you, use it.

but please close your bug before to switching !
thanks

kde apps 20.12.1
kde plasma 5.20.5
kde frameworks 5.78.0
qt 5.15.2

problem still there
Comment 14 Philippe ROUBACH 2021-03-02 13:38:25 UTC
I did not well explain.

Kmail uses an html engine to display html mail.

Why not an option to use Firefox to display the html mails because FF with darkreader can display html page with dark them ?

Or add an external module as darkreader to display html mail with dark them

I should like to add that other email clients, such as macOS' Mail appear to remove background:white styles from the original email so as to make them compatible with the client's native background.
Comment 16 Philippe ROUBACH 2021-03-03 11:19:49 UTC
I can add that using k9-mail using dark them there is no problem with same mail.
