Because, any other program can open images without damagin the original colors.
I'm sorry, but it's impossible to guess what's up with your system without a lot more information. It's obvious that this must be something to do with the way your system is setup, your krita settings or the particular image you're loading since if this would be happening to everyone we'd have seen it ourselves, and we haven't. * Make a screen recording. * Share the image you're trying to load. * Show the Windows color management setup in a screenshot. * Explain what you mean with "upon returning to the virtual desktop" since that's not obvious either.
