SUMMARY STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Connect external monitor (HDMI in this case) 2. Lock the laptop 3. Close the lid of the laptop and wait 4. Disconnect the monitor 5. Open lid to black screen (can't access the TTY to restart plasmashell) OBSERVED RESULT You can't access Plasma or a TTY. EXPECTED RESULT Opening the lid of the laptop brings back to the login screen and can login to continue working. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: MacOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 18.10 (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.14.90 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.54.0 Qt Version: 5.11.1 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION plasma-workspace-wayland/cosmic,now 4:5.14.90-0ubuntu1~ubuntu18.10~ppa3 amd64 wayland/cosmic-updates,cosmic-security,now 2:1.20.1-3ubuntu2.1 amd64
I just did this again by locking the system and closing the lid without a monitor attached.
