tda-report.pdf example of problem pdf

SUMMARY
I receive weekly PDF reports from TD Ameritrade but the text is always either mangled or missing or both. See attached pdf

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. open pdf
2. view document at "Sortable Portfolio Table" in page 1
3. There should be a bunch of stocks listed there when viewing this using the Firefox embedded viewer they are there but the text overlaps and is way too large. Windows apparently has no problem with this document according to TD Ameritrade

OBSERVED RESULT
Mangled or missing text
Note: when viewing in embedded viewer in Firefox its even worse

EXPECTED RESULT

Okular 1.6.1 and 1.1.2 (different PC's one is leap one is TW)

Can you attach a screenshot showing how it is supposed to look? The table is empty for me.

It is likely to be poppler problem (poppler is the library used by Okular for pdf rendering). Can you try 'pdftocairo' and see if you get the same misrendering?

Works fine here https://i.imgur.com/B02l7FN.png
Comment 3 Albert Astals Cid 2019-01-26 18:58:47 UTC
ah you meant on the second table, sorry
Comment 4 Albert Astals Cid 2019-01-26 19:00:22 UTC
Yeah the document is malformed, but even ghostscript can workaround it

**** Error: Tf refers to an unknown resource name: Arial Assuming it's a font name.
               Output may be incorrect.

so i guess poppler should too. Please report a bug at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/poppler/poppler/issues

I have too many accounts, I'd rather not sign up with another new account, if you have an account can you please report it for me?

pdftocairo produces the same results, a blank table

pdftocairo -png ../tda-report.pdf tda-report.png

The png shows the 2nd table is blank, same as okular

Not me. If that bug isn't important enough to you to get a poppler account, then it cannot be more important than the 549 bugs currently open in the poppler issue tracker.

see page 2 - data is missing entirely for the top section in that page

On page 2 of the attached document at the top of that page is a section labeled:
"Sortable Portfolio Table (All values in $ unless otherwise noted)"
It is empty when it should have several stocks listed there
My version of okular is 1.10.2
KDE 5.76.0 Plasma 5.18.6
Qt: 5.12.7
OpenSuse Leap 15.3
