ok clever clogs... explain this... i used the link https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=403361 to find the 2016 version and followed the install instructions , debian and ubuntu version. then unpacked the tar to a directory and ran the cmake . && make and make install now i have a version that synaptic says is 14-1 and the kaffeine window "About" says its version 15...... BUT the biggest weird thing is there is now NO option to use DVB tv at all, just file. audio CD, video CD , play DVD and play DVD folder..... you have made the program unusable in mint 19 cinnamon On 18/01/2019 16:24, Mauro Carvalho Chehab wrote: > https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=403361 > > Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab+samsung@kernel.org> changed: > > What |Removed |Added > ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Resolution|--- |DUPLICATE > Status|REPORTED |RESOLVED > > --- Comment #1 from Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab+samsung@kernel.org> --- > (In reply to tonyarcher from comment #0) >> SUMMARY >> 2.0.14 wont change channels from HD to SD.. this is a pain, alos the ability >> to fix the sound to eng or NAR in the edit menu is greyed out >> >> STEPS TO REPRODUCE >> 1. start up and tune any HD station >> 2. they to edit the channel settings, the option NAR or eng is greyed out >> and inoperable >> 3. changing to SD from HD channels just freezes kaffeine >> 4. going from SD to HD works fine >> >> OBSERVED RESULT >> the thing is useless as an easy way to watch tV as its apin to have to use >> mumudvb to reset the card by tuning in with kaffeine closed after a HD to SD >> freeze >> >> EXPECTED RESULT >> i expect kaffeine to function properly >> >> SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS >> Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon >> >> ADDITIONAL INFORMATION >> >> adapter (cx23885[0]) board: TurboSight TBS 6981 > This bug was fixed on Kaffeine 2.0.16. > > *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 402735 *** >
(In reply to tonyarcher from comment #2) > how do i get 2.0.16 to run on mint 19? > > or do you expect me to change my os? > You could either build it yourself from the sources or open a bug to your distro, in order for their maintainers to do the port. Instructions about how to build it are at Kaffeine's git tree: https://cgit.kde.org/kaffeine.git/tree/README.md

Kaffeine 2.0.16 was launched this year! A link to its tarball is available at: https://download.kde.org/stable/kaffeine/kaffeine-2.0.16-2.tar.xz.mirrorlist Be sure that you have libdvbv5-dev (or whatever name Mint uses for v4l-utils dvb header packages), as otherwise it will build without DVB support.

and yes i followed those exact instructions On 20/01/2019 18:40, Mauro Carvalho Chehab wrote: > https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=403361 > > --- Comment #5 from Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab+samsung@kernel.org> --- > (In reply to tonyarcher from comment #3) >> ok clever clogs... explain this... >> >> >> i used the link https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=403361 to find the >> 2016 version and followed the install instructions , debian and ubuntu >> version. then unpacked the tar to a directory and ran the cmake . && >> make and make install >> >> now i have a version that synaptic says is 14-1 and the kaffeine window > 2016 version??? (In reply to tonyarcher from comment #7) > and yes i followed those exact instructions > I don't know what is different on Mint. Perhaps they don't build libdvbv5 properly, or perhaps they named it differently. Here, I have Kaffeine running properly with DVB support on both Fedora 29 and Ubuntu 18.04 (on both, built from the git tree). Anyway, as I said, I can't really help with Mint. It is up to the distros to do the ports. Also, I never tried to install it. So, you would be better served by opening a BZ on Mint's bug tracker and let their package maintainer to build the package using version 2.0.16.
the whole ethos of Linux is that you dont EVER put a version out into a distro that hasnt been tested and found to work correctly ...EVER. why on earth did you choose to change kaffeine from Xine to VLC ???? no reason was ever explained... why not consider rewriting a version based on MUMUDBV ? at least that works... might i suggest you boffins just design a gui front end for mumudbv. Nobody is telling otherwise. Still, most distros want a BZ on their systems before upgrading packages, and they have their own QA policies. Often, it means to have a separate "testing/unstable" repositories where new versions are places in order for users to test. > > why on earth did you choose to change kaffeine from Xine to VLC ???? no > reason was ever explained... Dunno. You have to ask to the past maintainer. Yet, there were *hundreds* of bugs opened against older Kaffeine versions due to Xine by the time I started working on it. So, I suspect that the reason is that it was causing too many troubles, but I may be wrong. > why not consider rewriting a version based on MUMUDBV ? at least that > works... The best maintained MPEG-TS and audio/video decoding project nowadays are libVlc and GStreamer. I would myself stick with one of them. I don't know myself how MuMuDVB decode video standards. > > might i suggest you boffins just design a gui front end for mumudbv. The beauty of Linux is that anyone can do that, or to write a completely new GUI for MuMuDvb, including you. I don't foresee any work from my side on that, as a change like this is complex and I simply don't have enough time.
just to tell you i finally gave up on the "new improved" kaffeine and gone back to using version 1.2.2 it does everything kaffeine is supposed to do so what was the point of "improving it" with an inferior version? is there any way you can advise the guys who set up the repository of this fact? so they don't force a shitty upgrade on people? cheers Tony Archer On 21/01/2019 00:45, Mauro Carvalho Chehab wrote: > https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=403361 > > --- Comment #10 from Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab+samsung@kernel.org> --- > (In reply to tonyarcher from comment #9) >> the whole ethos of Linux is that you dont EVER put a version out into a >> distro that hasnt been tested and found to work correctly ...EVER. > Nobody is telling otherwise.
