Description Leslie Polzer 2018-12-23 19:32:57 UTC
SUMMARY

Very often (but not always) when downloading images with "Save image as...", Falkon freezes for seconds before resuming. The images don't have to be large. It doesn't seem to matter which site or image.

I'm on ArchLinux.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Right-click on any image.
2.
3.

OBSERVED RESULT

Falkon freezes for seconds before resuming. Image is saved.

EXPECTED RESULT

Falkon operates normally while/after/before image is saved. Image is saved.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Sorry, forgot to finish the "Steps" section:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Right-click on any image.
2. Choose "Save image as..."
3. Choose path and confirm
4. Watch Falkon freeze.

Also, I saw that Falkon just seems to call Qt's QWebEnginePage::DownloadImageToDisk, so the bug might be in there. I didn't check their source code yet.
Comment 2 David Rosca 2018-12-23 21:49:19 UTC
Download dialog (from download offer to selecting path where to save it) is blocking due to QtWebEngine API, there is unfortunately no way around it.

Will you report the slowness of the QtWebEngine call to upstream (QtWebengine team)? It doesn't seem to be normal behavior in their library.

Leslie I can't seem to replicate this issue on Falkon 3.1.0 with Qt 5.14.2.

Can you please confirm if this is still an issue for you, thanks.
