Description Slava K 2018-12-14 01:51:19 UTC
SUMMARY

Transparency and blue not working in FreeBSD

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Konsole
2. Enable Transparency and/or Blur effects
3. Transparency is not working when window is still. If you move it around it works, but if you drag to edge of screen, everything around goes grey

OBSERVED RESULT

No Konsole tranparency

EXPECTED RESULT

Should see through active Konsole window

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
FreeBSD 11.2, 12.0-Release
KDE Plasma: 5.12.7
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.12.7
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.52.0
Qt Version: 5.11.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This has been ongoing issue for me since FreeBSD 11.1. I thought updating to FreeBSD 12 and drm-kmod-next might help, but still same issue. There is an existing issue for this on Github (others have seen this behavior as well) with more information. I've tried everything suggested in that thread, but still not working. Please see more detailed info here:

https://github.com/FreeBSDDesktop/kms-drm/issues/88

Hope someone can look into this, I really like to have transparency in konsole, especially when comparing configs in browser in background with whatever I'm doing in konsole.
Comment 1 Mariusz Glebocki 2018-12-14 02:37:26 UTC
I didn't check it on FreeBSD, but the problem described here and on github looks like a bug related to KWin. It is the part of the system which draws things behind a window.

If you can reproduce the problem in other program (e.g. Plasma panels/windows), I suggest changing the bug product to KWin.
Comment 2 Slava K 2018-12-14 02:42:11 UTC
Yes, it does happen with panel as well. Will assign to kwin. Thank you

Please provide the output of qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin supportInformation

Hi Martin, here is the output, thank you:

Comment 5 Martin Flöser 2018-12-14 16:44:28 UTC
According to the debug output everything should be working. There is nothing we can do to investigate. The platform is rather exotic and we cannot rule out that this is a problem specific to Freebsd. I do not know whether freebsd supports compositing at all and in which state the packaging is.

Please take this to the KDE freebsd packagers to check what the state is. I'm setting to downstream as that looks like a problem specific to the distribution/OS.
