SUMMARY When I start Kmail, the fan starts spinning madly and seems to use up too many resources on the CPU. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Start Kmail OBSERVED RESULT Fan starts spinning excessively and does not stop until Kmail is closed. top shows Kmail as the most resource-hungry process. EXPECTED RESULT None of the above. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Kmail: 5.9.3 KDE Plasma Version: 5.14.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.52.0 Qt Version: 5.11.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Here is the output from top: PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 1389 paul 20 5718600 299452 186100 R 100.3 2.5 13:56.63 /usr/bin/kontact The computer I am using is a modern HP Envy and is powerful enough to run much more resource-hungry software without getting too hot. It is not Akonadi, since stopping, starting, fscking and vacuuming do not have any observable effects. It is not any of the other Kontact components: I have started them all separately and none has the same effect as Kmail.
