SUMMARY When trying to record the screen using Kdenlive on Windows, I get the error "Unknown input format: 'x11grab'". This of course makes perfect sense since Windows does no use X11. However, if the Windows version of Kdenlive were to use gdigrab instead of x11grab, this would allow the Windows version of Kdenlive to record the screen as well. I tested this by calling the ffmpeg.exe that comes with Kdenlive for Windows from the Windows Command Prompt. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Start a new project 2. In the Clip Monitor, press the + 3. Select "Screen Grab" 4. Press Record OBSERVED RESULT Kdenlive displays "Capture crashed, please check your parameters" along with a "show log" button. Pressing the "show log" button shows the error to be "Unknown input format: 'x11grab'" along with the version (4.0) and compile options of ffmpeg. EXPECTED RESULT The screen would be recorded. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: 10 MacOS: Linux/KDE Plasma: (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: KDE Frameworks Version: 5.50.0 Qt Version: 5.11.1 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I really love this program!
Thanks for reporting this issue. It seems easy to fix. I marked it as a junior job.
This is fixed in 19.12.3. Use view -> Screen grab. Make sure that the paths to FFMPED in settings environment are set properly. We close this bug. If it still appears in the latest version, please feel free to re-open it and update the affected version number.
