Description purderaf 2018-11-26 17:08:20 UTC
SUMMARY
Move to Activity popup only works on selecting activity a second time
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Right Click an open application on the task manager
2. Select Move to Activity
3. Select another activity to move the application to.

OBSERVED RESULT
If the application was assigned to an activity before selecting another activity only deselects everything, then you have to right click and do everything again to be able to achieve the intended result.
EXPECTED RESULT
Either let the menu stay after first selection after it deselects everything so intended activity can be selected without right clicking and going to move to activity again.

I would like to see this fixed as well. I will try to look into it when I have some time.

Note that doing the same thing by right-clicking on the window title bar works the way you describe: the menu does not close, so one can click multiple times until the application is assigned to the desired activity.

Are working with a two activity setup? If so what is happening the first time appears to be that the window is being set to show on all activities. On my setup the item in question is called "Show in Activities" not "Move to Activity". It makes more sense with more than two activities present. In that setup a window could be shown on some but not all activities. That appears to be the intent behind the current interface. I only have two so its doing exactly what you describe for me.

I had the same issue, and I guess the confusion here is that I, expected the activities list to be radio buttons like the virtual desktops list, but instead it's checkboxes and a select all. Compounded by the fact that when the check all box is checked, the other boxes are unchecked, so when you have two activities there is always exactly one box checked, like with radio buttons.

I feel like it would be more intuitive if all the boxes were checked when the "show on all activities" box was checked, so when you click an unchecked box, it ends up checked (but the old one is also still checked). And keep the menu open, since the interface requires multiple clicks, unlike the virtual desktop list. Some windows don't even have a title bar to click.

This was fixed recently; forward-duping to Bug 445664.
