Description odzinic 2018-11-07 18:24:30 UTC
When the auto hide feature is enabled for the icon-only task manager, I experience a quick lag/freeze upon bringing up the task manager while a video is playing.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have a video playing on any monitor
2. Make task manager appear by moving mouse to the edge of the screen

OBSERVED RESULT

Small freeze-up of video the video for less than a second. The task manager also is not as smooth at appearing than it is when no video is playing. The freeze-up does not continue while the task manager is up, only upon the unhiding of the task manager.

EXPECTED RESULT

The task manager appearing smoothly with no video playback freeze-up.

SOFTWARE VERSIONS
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.14.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.51.0
Qt Version: 5.11.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I am using a nVidia graphis card with driver version 396.54.09 installed. This issue occurred in KDE plasma versions 5.12 and 5.13 as well. The issue seems to occur as well when the volume OSD appears at first when the volume is changed. If I keep moving the volume up and down and keeping the OSD up, the lag is not present. It seems to only occur when the plasma object appears on the screen at first.

I forgot to mention that this occurs when playing HTML5 and Flash video in browsers along with video played in VLC.

Can you run this with ksysguard open and see if the kwin process or the X11 process spikes?

Every time I would unhide the task manager while playing a HTML video in the background using Firefox, my cpu usage would go up from 1% to 2% for the kwin_x11 process.

Looks like an old issue. Setting it to needs more info.
Please try with a newer version(plasma 5.23.5) and if this is not an issue any more let us know.
