Description Stu Kraji 2018-10-31 11:03:54 UTC
For icons only task manager.

if multiple instances of an application exists, afaik one cannot cycle through them by repeating the shortcut combination (by default meta+n).

Icing task manager (cinnamon) and dash2panel (gnome-shell) allow this. I find it very intuitive :)

thank you.

It would also be nice if successive clicks on the icon would cycle through open instances, too.

Note that you can already switch between open instances of the *current* app using the default alt+` shortcut. Is that what you were asking for?

No :( Using the default keys, in case of multiple windows of an application X, I would like to press meta+n to go the last used window of X and to cycle the windows of X by repeating meta+n

you can see it in the video below

I'm confused. That video appears to show the use of a keyboard shortcut to cycle between open windows of the current app, which is exactly what I mentioned earlier that you can already do today with alt+`. What am I missing?

oh sorry. the functionality is exactly the one provided by alt+`. but we should be able to do it by pressing meta+n to go to the last window used of the app and by repeating this we should cycle the windows of that app.

Sorry. I don't understand what info do I need to add?
Comment 8 Nate Graham 2018-11-24 20:19:16 UTC
You just added it, by answering my question. :)

Since the functionality you want is already provided by alt+`, you can just use that instead. If you prefer to use a different keyboard shortcut to access the functionality, you can change it, and then you will have exactly what you want.
