When kate open or reopen a big file, it shows a warning if the file is big so you can choose to load it or cancel, but this dialog is not present when the file is already opened and it is modified in the disk and the file becomes huge. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open a file 2. append a lot of text and fast to the file (In my case it was 5000Mb) 3. See how kate uses several gigabytes of RAM and has to be killed.
I think this is kind of related to bug 351362.
Jaime can you please confirm if this is the same issue as in Bug 351362?
It can be seen as another case of the other means in #351362, yes. * Dropping the file * Command line * Reopened because it has been modified.
