Created attachment 115887 [details] kdenlive crash SUMMARY. Using KDE Neon. I use Jack for audio. Previously I have used ALSA loopback to bridge kdenlive with Jack. With jack running kdenlive was producing audio in the wrong soundcard, so I went to the settings to tell it to use ALSA / Loopback. This did not produce audio. I closed and restarted kdenlive I got the error message: "Could not Create the Video Preview Window." STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Run Jack Audio Server 2. Attempt to send audio from Kdenlive via ALSA / Loopback in the kdenlive settings 3. No audio. 4. Close and reopen kdenlive - new error message "Could not create the video preview window" (see attached image). 5. Try to change audio settings again. Kdenlive crashes. OBSERVED RESULT No audio, no video, kdenlive crashes EXPECTED RESULT Audio bridged to Jack server. SOFTWARE VERSIONS (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: KDE Frameworks Version: Qt Version: ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
... more on this topic: the error message goes away when I delete all kdenlive related config files, but it comes back as soon as I attempt to change the audio output in settings. Workaround (install pulseaudio) I installed the latest kdenlive 18.08.2 from flatpak. The same error was occurring. Based on something I read in a forum, I installed pulseaudio which I had uninstalled because I do not use it. I deleted all config files related to flatpak version of kdenlive and opened it again. Now audio is going directly to the pulseaudio bridge, and into jack. However, if I attempt to change anything about the audio output in kdenlive settings the same bug returns with the message "Could not create the video preview window". Restarting kdenlive, the same error message occurs, I cannot change the audio server to "Default" because this causes an immediate crash. This solution does not work for the 18.08.1 version I installed from Neon repositories. With or without pulseaudio installed, audio outputs to the wrong sound card and any changes to the settings causes this error message and crash.
Please try with the actual Kdenlive AppImageversion 18.08.3 Run the Appimage from the terminal (press CTRL + ALT + T). Move to the AppImage folder and run the .AppImage: ./Kdenlive*.AppImage Just to test if this happend with the AppImage as well.
@emohr: Confirmed this bug exists in the app image for 18.12, though the behaviour is a little different. When Pulse Audio is not installed I get the same error message: "Could not Create the Video Preview Window. There is something wrong with your Kdenlive install or your driver settings, please fix it." The terminal reports: [consumer sdl2_audio] Failed to initialize SDL: Could not setup connection to PulseAudio qt.qpa.xcb: QXcbConnection: XCB error: 8 (BadMatch), sequence: 769, resource id: 92274717, major code: 155 (Unknown), minor code: 11 When I install pulseaudio I can use kdenlive, then when I attempt to change anything about the audio device kdenlive uses, kdenlive crashes with the following: ALSA lib /build/deps-build/ext_alsa/ext_alsa-prefix/src/ext_alsa/src/conf.c:3942:(snd_config_update_r) Cannot access file /build/deps/usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf ALSA lib /build/deps-build/ext_alsa/ext_alsa-prefix/src/ext_alsa/src/control/control.c:1373:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL hw:0 aplay: device_list:279: control open (0): No such file or directory ALSA lib /build/deps-build/ext_alsa/ext_alsa-prefix/src/ext_alsa/src/conf.c:3942:(snd_config_update_r) Cannot access file /build/deps/usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf ALSA lib /build/deps-build/ext_alsa/ext_alsa-prefix/src/ext_alsa/src/control/control.c:1373:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL hw:1 aplay: device_list:279: control open (1): No such file or directory ALSA lib /build/deps-build/ext_alsa/ext_alsa-prefix/src/ext_alsa/src/conf.c:3942:(snd_config_update_r) Cannot access file /build/deps/usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf ALSA lib /build/deps-build/ext_alsa/ext_alsa-prefix/src/ext_alsa/src/control/control.c:1373:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL hw:29 aplay: device_list:279: control open (29): No such file or directory libDeckLinkAPI.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory The DeckLink drivers are not installed. Please test the audio with the actual Kdenlive AppImage version 18.12.0c File is a bit bigger (217Mb): https://files.kde.org/kdenlive/release/kdenlive-18.12.0c-x86_64.appimage.mirrorlist
Hi Emohr, I downloaded the app image you linked to and it behaved in the same way as other app images. ""Could not Create the Video Preview Window." and attempts to change audio settings causes a crash. HEre is the terminal output. I have set the bug status to "needsinfo" pending your response, please change back to "reported" or "resolved/worksforme" when you respond, thank you.
I have had no problems with audio in kdenlive for a while now. My system is in any case a little different to how it was in 2018. I am using Ubuntu Studio repositories with pulseaudio-jack bridge.
