SUMMARY After updating to Kubuntu 18.10 and Plasma 5.14, I found that all directories had "Show preview of files and folders" (aka. Preview) enabled when using "Remember properties for each folder" in Dolphin Preferences. If I set it to "Use common properties for all folders" it works, as in all folders view the same way. The "old" way of fixing view mode was setting "Use common properties for all folders" > then setting the view mode you wanted (e.g. Details and disable Preview, in my case). This does not work for me now. When I enable "Remember properties for each folder", it defaults to Details and Enabled Preview, even if I tried the "old" way of setting common defaults. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Set "Use common properties for all folders" 2. Set preferred view modes (e.g. Details and disable Preview) 3. Set "Remember properties for each folder" 4. Try navigating to a sub-dir of current. OBSERVED RESULT Directories does not respect the set preferred view modes. EXPECTED RESULT All directories should inherit the view modes set during "Use common properties for all folders". SOFTWARE VERSIONS Operating System: Kubuntu 18.10 KDE Plasma Version: 5.14.2 Qt Version: 5.11.1 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.51.0 Kernel Version: 4.19.0-041900-generic ADDITIONAL INFORMATION My install is currenlty a dist-upgrade from Kubuntu 18.04 to 18.10. I'm also using Kubuntu backports for latest Plasma. This issue might be resulting from the dist-upgrade. Prior to upgrading, my views were working as intended (i.e. Details, with disabled Preview in all directories, except those I actively enabled Preview and/or changed view mode).
> my views were working as intended (i.e. Details, with disabled Preview in all > directories, except those I actively enabled Preview and/or changed view mode). You just need to tell dolphin to default to not using previews when in "Remember properties for each folder" mode. Here's how to do it from scratch: 1. Control menu or Settings menu > Dolphin Settings 2. Check "Remember properties for each folder" 3. Control menu or View menu > Adjust View Properties 4. Set your preferred default view 5. Click "Apply To > All Folders 6. Click Apply Now you can individually adjust the settings in other folders as needed to (for example) turn on previews only where desired.
Colour me not-a-bug! Thanks a lot, that fixed it right up. Works just like it did before. And now the obligatory "have it been considered moving this settings page in with the other settings under Menu > Configure Dolhpin?" No need to reply to it, just putting it out there.
Yes, I'm not totally satisfied with the current workflow myself. We get a non-trivial number of bugs just like this one that are solved with a similar set of instructions regarding how to use the "Adjust View Properties" window, which is indicative of a user interface problem. It's definitely on our radar screens.
