Description Knut Hildebrandt 2018-10-12 13:00:12 UTC
Read this Bug387443 thread and, if I got it right, according to it my problem should not exist. But for me it does not work as expected.

What I expect is a setting that lets me choose which format new mails and mails written as a reply and forwarded mails ALWAYS should have. Can't find such a setting. Right now I only can toggle between Plain/Rich-Text in the composer window. And the last choice is remembered and used as default for the next mail.

BTW, in the security settings -> Reading "Prefer HTML to plain text" is off. In the Composing section there is nothing to choose from regarding HTML/Rich-Text/Plain etc.

Hi,

As you write "eading "Prefer HTML to plain text" is off" => reading no writing.

But indeed perhaps we can create a new option for it.

Hello,

just mentioned it because in Bug387443 report it was mentioned too and thus somehow implied that there is a connection.

would be great since security aware users usually reject sending HTML mails and use them only as the exception to the rule.

Thanks for looking into the matter

Knut

Thank you for reporting this issue in KDE software. As it has been a while since this issue was reported, can we please ask you to see if you can reproduce the issue with a recent software version?

If you can reproduce the issue, please change the status to "REPORTED" when replying. Thank you!

The problem still exists. Even though I selected:
1. Settings/Configure KMail -> Security -> Reading -> "Prefer HTML to plain text" is off
2. Settings/Configure KMail -> Composer -> General -> "Reply or forward using the same visual format as original message (plain text or HTML" is off
all new messages as well as replies and forwards have the same format as the last message edited. If Options/Rich text editing:
- was On -> next message will be HTML
- was Off -> next message will be plain text.

What I wish would be a "general setting" that overwrites everything and makes all messages regardless if "new", forwarded or a reply by default "plain text". Would expect such a setting next to this one:
- Settings/Configure KMail -> Composer -> General -> "Reply or forward using the same visual format as original message (plain text or HTML"
It could look like this:
- Settings/Configure KMail -> Composer -> General -> "Make new messages HTML (plain text is default)"

And the setting if replies or forward should have the same format as the original message, should be respected what it right now is not.
