Hello.

You should be able to solve this by creating a new document, and pressing tab.

I've been meaning to report this. Essentially what I assume happened is you pressed tab or otherwise entered canvas mode, then closed a document, and can no longer get out. You need an active document to toggle state.

"tried to uninstall and install krita multiple times to turn off canvas only mode" -- uninstalling and reinstalling won't solve problems with settings. See https://docs.krita.org/en/KritaFAQ.html#resetting-krita-configuration.

It's a bit hard to make the Tab key function if there's no open document, because then Qt assigns it the default function of moving to the next widget in the window.

Hi, Klair!

Could you also try to reset Krita configuration files? They should put your Krita state in to the default mode, and these files are not removed during uninstall/install cycle, because they are stored in your user's directory.

Here is a manual on how to reset your Krita settings:
https://docs.krita.org/en/KritaFAQ.html#resetting-krita-configuration

I will mark the bug as NEEDSINFO for now. If the bug is not fixed after you reset the configuration, please mark the bug as REOPENED, so we could notice it. Otherwise, if the bug is gone, just mark it as RESOLVED.
