Description MarcP 2018-09-20 16:55:23 UTC
I have noticed it did not happen before. In windows 10 (64 bit), using the digiKam-6.0.0-beta1-20180916T150303-Win64.exe, when you close Digikam (either by clicking on the X on the corner, or in "File, Close", the window closes, but the process stays in the background (it can be seen in windows task manager).

The problem is that when you start Digikam again, it complains about not finding the databases or not being accessible, and no pictures are loaded. You can't use it until you manually kill that process and restart Digikam.

yes, more and less reproducible with previous 6.0.0 version under Win7.

What do you seen as debug trace with debugview tool when you close the application ?

Nothing special, just that "Database is locked. Waited xxxx" message all over and over. https://pastebin.com/bk74kRK9

It doesn't change from when it's running, when you close, or when you finally kill the process.

Also, I noticed some thumbnails stopped loading after some point (right when the Database is locked messages appear). But that didn't happen yesterday and still had the behavior I describe in this report.

This all could be my fault, since my database is now stored in a samba share, but I've been using it for a few months and so far it seems to work fine (although a bit slower than usual).

Just an update. The thumbnails not loading was caused by a corrupted database. I had to recover it from a backup. Probably my fault for experimenting so much. Digikam staying as a background process after closing still happens.

I just wanted to say that it doesn't happen to me anymore. I don't know why, but now digikam closes completely.
