View of Update Window as well as exit message

I click the "update" button in the notification for discover and it opens up the update window to update. The "Tasks" stay at "0%" and if I try to close the window it tells me "Could not close the application, there are tasks that need to be done". If I force restart the machine the operating system corrupts and I lose all my data. The usual "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get upgrade" do not have issues. My "Update" window stays stuck with the application and system updates, letting me know how many updates are selected and the size of the updates but with all options grayed out.
