When capture a rectangular area is selected, making click on "Make a new capture" causes crash.
Were you using display scaling like https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=398271 ? What size rectangular region did you select?
Please provide the information that Andrew requested so we can try to figure this out.
There is no way to select nothing because the program "spectacle" crashes where I try click in "Take a new screen capture" buton.

Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install spectacle on Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon 2. In Area choose "Rectangular region" 3. Press "Make a new screen capture" ... crash The program closes. In spanish 1. Intalar desde el manejador de programas spectacle 2. En area, seleccione " región rectangular" 3. Presinar el botón "Realizar nueva captura de pantalla" --> crash
