Description Marc Bohets 2018-09-02 10:32:09 UTC
Hi,

When powering up, the login screen uses qwerty layout instead of French azerty
like I configured in KDE system settings.
Once logged in, the keyboard layout is ok, also when logging out and in using the login screen again.

The reason why I have this problem is that when I installed KDE Neon, I forgot to set the Keyboard layout to FR during install.
See https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthread.php/74310-Incorrect-keyboard-layout-at-login?p=419598

Not really a showstopper for me, but it would be more user friendly if KDE would adress this problem, I think it should be an easy fix by adding a few lines in the system settings code, but unfortunately I am not a developper, and I would not know in what file this small extra code would need to be put.
Apparently Manjaro KDE already took care of this, It would be nice if it would be solved on KDE level, so the same issue does not turn up in every other distro that uses KDE.

This could turn away new users because they are not able to login after installation.

Just received a sw update, and the login is back to qwerty :-)
So I changed /usr/share/sddm/scripts/Xsetup again, and made it read only.
I hope this does not disturb apt-get or dpkg update processes in the future.

From the Arch wiki it seems this should be set by a command and kept in /etc so it's not wiped by system updates: "SDDM loads the keyboard layout specified in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-keyboard.conf. You can generate this configuration file by localectl set-x11-keymap command."

Can you please test and confirm if this issue is still occurring or if this bug report can be marked as resolved. I've set the bug status to "needsinfo" pending your response, please change back to "reported" or "resolved" when you respond, thanks.

In the mean time, I don't use KDE Neon anymore, as I purchased a new laptop (Asus TUF A17 gaming), and KDE Neon, does not work on it because it does not support the recent hardware of this laptop.

Manjaro (and probably also Arch) seems to be the only distro that runs well on my new laptop.
I tried KDE Neon, Kubuntu, Ubuntu, Fedora and Suse (rolling) and all have issues with hardware support (mainly AMD/NVIDIA graphics and keyboard illumination).

Also back in 2018, Manjaro did not have this bug, and it is not present in the current Manjaro version, so I am unable to test it, because my old laptop is broken.

Thanks for the update Marc. I'm going to mark this as resolved as there's no way to test it as you mentioned.

Please open a new bug report if you have any issues in the future, thanks.
