Description Neousr 2018-08-31 22:29:18 UTC
Cannot unlock a system using a keyboard if you wait a small amount of time without using a mouse movement/click.

System:

Neon UE 5.13.4

KDE Framework 5.49.0

QT Version 5.11.1

Reproducible: Always

Required Options: Auto login Enabled

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Power on the device (wait until the password field fades and only the clock stays).
2. Press the Escape key or any key on the keyboard.

Move/click the mouse to be able to login.

Actual Results:

Pressing the Escape key will not let me type the system password. Until the mouse moves that can be a problem if a system doesn't have one.

Expected Results:

Pressing Escape will let you see the password field and pressing it again will hide again. As it does when you log in and lock the screen by a menu or automatically by the system.

A small follow up, the waiting time on the lock screen is 50 seconds.

Same behavior on the unstable branches on version 5.13.80.

Are we talking about the login screen or the lock screen?

The login screen is what you see when you turn on the computer. It has a blurred image background and shows the password field by default. The password field disappears after 50 seconds.

The lock screen is what you see after your computer locks or goes to sleep. It shows an image background by default, and reveals the password field only after any input (keyboard or mouse).

Can you confirm which one has the problem you're describing?

By the information you gave me it seems to be the lock screen.

System starts the blur is active on the background, 50 seconds pass the blur fades and the symptoms appear.

No attempt on login was tried nor any key pressed until the blur fades.

If it's the thing that shows up when you turn your computer on, it's the *login* screen.

Then is the login screen, i see the changes made on the report. Appreciated.

Keep an eye on https://phabricator.kde.org/T9658, which is where we're discussing ways to improve the login screen (which will fix this bug too).

I decided to revisit this issue but since 5.15 and along 5.16 the issue is no longer the same but the same steps and behavior to reproduce continue intact.

Does this guarantee a new issue/modify or close this one.

The only difference will be that the controls instead of not appearing after 45-50 seconds now pressing any key will not focus the password field until tab is used or the mouse.

We fixed the original issue, and that focus issue is a new one. Can you please file a bug for it? Thanks!
