Description Nick 2018-08-27 17:15:35 UTC
Plasmashell-workspace did not start at boot time . Checking the internet I found a solution :

kbuildsycoca5 --noincremental && kquitapp5 plasmashell && kstart5 plasmashell 2>/dev/null

I tried it and got plasmashell back but with some troubling messages [ provided below ]
[messages start]
kbuildsycoca5 --noincremental
kbuildsycoca5 running...
kf5.kservice.sycoca: Parse error in "/home/<uname>/.config/menus/applications-merged/xdg-desktop-menu-dummy.menu" , line 1 , col 1 : "unexpected end of file"
kf5.kservice.services: The desktop entry file "/opt/kde3/share/applications/kde/kresources.desktop" has Type= "Application" but also has a X-KDE-Library key. This works for now, but makes user-preference handling difficult, so support for this might be removed at some point. Consider splitting it into two desktop files.
kf5.kservice.services: The desktop entry file "/usr/share/applications/org.gnome.ChromeGnomeShell.desktop" has Type= "Application" but no Exec line
kf5.kservice.sycoca: Invalid Service : "/usr/share/applications/org.gnome.ChromeGnomeShell.desktop"
kf5.kservice.services: The desktop entry file "/usr/share/applications/org.kde.drkonqi.desktop" has Type= "Application" but no Exec line
kf5.kservice.sycoca: Invalid Service : "/usr/share/applications/org.kde.drkonqi.desktop"
kf5.kservice.services: The desktop entry file "/usr/share/applications/org.kde.systemmonitor.desktop" has Type= "Application" but no Exec line
kf5.kservice.sycoca: Invalid Service : "/usr/share/applications/org.kde.systemmonitor.desktop"

kquitapp5 plasmashell
"Application plasmashell could not be found using service org.kde.plasmashell and path /MainApplication."

kstart5 plasmashell
Omitting both --window and --windowclass arguments is not recommended

KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/bin/plasmashell from kdeinit
KCrash: Application 'plasmashell' crashing...
KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib64/libexec/drkonqi from kdeinit
Unable to start Dr. Konqi
Re-raising signal for core dump handling.

[ messages end ]

It seems that many issues are related to some desktop type files which contain some contradictions.

I checked /usr/share/applications/org.gnome.ChromeGnomeShell.desktop and it is installed by the chrome-gnome-shell .
The selected a package version is 10-lp150-1.3 and does not have dependencies .
I removed it with "clean up" then reinstall .
The issue desktop file is identical to the one with problems .

Is it any way to get those file in the correct format ?

Thanks,

Nick

Are you able to reproduce this in a currently supported version of Plasma, such as 5.18 (the current LTS version) or 5.21 (the latest release)? If so, please attack a backtrace of the crash. Thanks!
