When I click a directory name (e.g. `control` in the attached screenshot), the widget opens if it was closed and closes if it was open for a moment and then returns back.

This behavior is a nonsense.

Note that Kate does the right thing if I click the small arrow at the left of the folder name.

Victor I can't seem to  replicate this on the latest Kate, can you please re-test and confirm if this is still an issue for you.

Yes, it seems to be fixed.
