The backtrace indicates that your OpenGL drivers are not functional. This is confirmed by the fact that you are not using compositing. Please fix your drivers.
How am I supposed to fix these OpenGL-drivers and why are they causing these problems only randomly? I disabled compositing, because it was never working correctly on my system. I think it has something to do with the nVidia-drivers I'm using.
Please ask for help in a forum of your distribution how to correctly install matching nvidia driver and kernel versions.
