Description Øystein Steffensen-Alværvik 2018-07-29 20:33:56 UTC
When launched from KRunner ("Get program X …") Discover will sometimes silently fail to download and install the requested application. Upon clicking "Install", no password dialog appears and the progress bar will stay at 0%, until the "Install" button reappears. Pressing "Install" a second time will often succeed with the proper install.

Happens at least with Packagekit.

Reproduction steps:
1) Launch KRunner and search for a program (like KStars)
2) Select "Get KStars" and from within the newly launched Discover window press "Install"
Symptom: Appears to install the package but after ~30 sec the "Install" button reappears.

Do you know which backend that was? (source? which is your default source?)
Comment 2 Øystein Steffensen-Alværvik 2018-08-24 09:09:32 UTC
This happens a lot with Discover on Neon User with the Bionic base, although it looks a bit different: the 'Install' button will blink if I choose it, and do this until I have chosen it 5-10 times, until the pwd prompt appears.

Confirmed with packages from Ubuntu main and universe (so Packagekit backend?).

Should I re-assign this to Neon, since it doesn't seem to happen on other distros? On Neon Bionic the issue is rather extreme; one must click over 20 times on Install to get a response.

Nvm, also occurs on Kubuntu 18.10, with packagekit backend.

Can you confirm it still happens with plasma 5.14? I have fixed this bug in the past.

Yes, I just reproduced this on Kubuntu 18.10 with Plasma 5.14.3. I see two issues that might have the same cause:

1) Pressing the "Install" button will appear to install the package but after ~30 sec the "Install" button reappears, and no install process was initiated (no password prompt).

2) Pressing the "Install" button will make the button blink for 0.5 sec, but no install process is initiated. When this happens, I must press "Install" 10-20 times before the password prompt appears.

I *think* it is related to the speed of the internet connection. This never happens when I'm on a fast connection, but often happens when I'm on a slow and unreliable one (but the connection *is* working when I do this, it's just 25-100 KB/s).

Thanks for the update; changing status.

Installation of flatpak package fails for me when I try to install from a live session of kde neon, It seems flatpak refuses to install when minimum space requirement is not satisfied. When trying on an installed system, discover is able to install flatpak without an issue.
Comment 9 Nate Graham 2019-01-18 21:22:32 UTC
That's a separate issue, Prasad. This bug is about Distro/PackageKit apps, not Flatpak apps.
Comment 10 Øystein Steffensen-Alværvik 2019-04-28 11:52:39 UTC
Have not been affected by this in a while, but happened *once* now while trying to install a program from Ubuntu repos. I have only experienced this on slow and unstable connections.
Comment 11 Øystein Steffensen-Alværvik 2019-04-28 14:43:58 UTC
Um, seems that it's at least not related to the network speed and stability. Just had it happen on my university's network with high-speed fibre internet.
Comment 12 Aleix Pol 2022-01-20 16:17:16 UTC
Are you still seeing this problem? It's interesting that it hasn't popped on other people.
Comment 13 Øystein Steffensen-Alværvik 2022-01-20 21:26:49 UTC
I have been using several distros with KDE the past years since this bug report and have not experienced this issue in a long while. This report is only still open because I forgot about it. Since no one else seems to have experienced this problem since 2019, I think this issue can be closed. :-)

Great news!
